Budgeting For Your Dream Vacation

Let’s be honest here. Just because COVID-19 has put a stop to our travel plans, it doesn’t mean you aren’t planning your next vacation. In fact, you are most likely planning your dream vacation, because your first trip out of the country has to be BOMB!

Well, at least that’s how I’m feeling lol.

Since we have time to plan our dream vacation, I wanted to share with you some tips that have helped me save quicker for my trips. Here are my top 4 saving tips:

1. Sign up for newsletters. I know your inbox is probably filled with subscriptions you don't even recall singing up for. BUT signing up for the right newsletters can help you find great deals quicker. Choose the hotels, airlines, tour companies, etc. that you are planning to use for your trip and sign up for their newsletters. You will be the first to find out of a deal or discount that could save you a good chunk of money. If you need to, create a new email address that is only used for receiving travel related newsletters to avoid missing the offers.

2. Look up packages for tourist attractions you want to see. You would be surprised how many locations have packages to go see several land marks for half the cost of booking them individually. In Athens you can buy a multi-ticket for 30€ which allows you to access the Acropolis and six other archaeological sites. In Barcelona, you can purchase a multi ticket to see both the Sagrada Familia and Park Guell. In Toronto and New York you can purchase a city pass that allows you to see approximately 6 sites.

3. Sign up for a credit card that collects travel points. A lot of credit cards have point systems that can be redeemed for travelling. You can use your points for flights, car rentals and hotel rooms. I would also recommend signing up for airline point cards. If you travel travel with the same airline (or affiliates) you will rack up points quickly that can be redeemed for free flights.

4. Book your hotel room in advance. Now this is not a saving hack, but it will kick your a** into gear to commit to your trip. It will force you to set a date, but you really aren’t committing to anything. Why? Because 99% of hotels have free cancellations up to 1 week in advance (some even 24 hours in advance). So if something happens — like COVID — you can still cancel your hotel and get a full refund.

So, where are you planning your dream vacation to??
