4 Benefits of Journaling
There is something powerful about putting pen to paper. I was first introduced to journaling by my acting coach. He suggested that one of the first things to do in the morning (in addition to making random noises to wake up our voices) should be journaling. His advice was to write down anything that came to mind. It did not matter if they were proper sentences, random words, or a song that popped into your head. It was a way of decluttering your brain before consuming new information.
In many of the self-growth books I’ve read, journaling is regarded as a great tool for connecting with yourself, with your intuition, and with the best version of yourself. And I could not agree with this more. Incorporating journaling to my morning routine has been a big part of the positive mindset changes I have been able to achieve.
So, what are the benefits of journaling every morning?
It’s an opportunity to self-reflect. Before I started journaling as part of my morning routine, I would randomly grab my journal when I felt the need to let things go. There would be “unfinished” conversions or emotions I couldn't “just get over” and I found that writing my thoughts about these situations helped me reflect on it in a way I was unable to do with just my thoughts. The result was this sensation of weight being lifted off my shoulders - i automatically felt lighter and open to positivity.
Use it as a way to relieve stress. Sometimes our emotions ride a rollercoaster. Or even worse, you get frustrated talking to someone because it feels like you are talking to a wall that you can’t break through. Brain dump your frustration, anxiety, stress, etc. into your journal. You will walk away feeling like you found a resolution while leaving the stress behind.
It inspires creativity. Especially when you journal after meditating, your creativity is at full force. You have connected to your intuition and the universe on a deeper level and the downloads are just flowing. Journaling what comes to mind is a perfect way to explore your creativity and let your thoughts and ideas run wild.
It can strengthen your memory. Your brain is capable of making stronger connections to things you have written down making it easier to recall in the future. It increases your ability to recall those thoughts quicker while in motion. Much like recalling a recipe while you are making it.
It has been a tool that has helped me have those “aha” moments. It has allowed me to work through unresolved emotions, brainstorm ideas to take myself and my business to the next level, and reduce my stress to the point where I can say I have some patience.
